I discovered a archive site that had the website I founded in 1998 archived to a degree. Unfortunately it was just too early in the internet boom and it went down after 2 years of development when the bubble burst in may of 2000. But check out the incredible group of authors listed at the bottom left of this image that worked on it with us. It was an amazing & exciting time in the beginning of the internet boom, it was a gold rush, a new means of worldwide communication. This site had the first free online data base, that based of a persons specific criteria, financial situation, location or problems, it could find the specific help anonymously one needed based on the models of treatment offered by the provider. We sent out 13000 surveys to treatment providers and received 3 pages of information from the treatment facilities and providers which all had to be manually entered as such a data base did not exists at the time. It was a huge massive task. In addition, my experience as an interventionist was that most people were finding help only based word of mouth that did not asses the person as a whole and the specific treatment offered. So people were only getting help for a part of their problems and this lead to much failure and additional shame of the person needing care. An example is, a young woman who was using drugs and may have had an eating disorder and may have been a cutter needed a type of help that could address all of it in an appropriate enviorment and time period to do so. But might of ended up in a place that was just versed in drug addiction and could be very confrontational instead of loving. When she left treatment with the hopes of her family and friends that she would be ok now, maybe she then even moved into a sober house. But then her untreated eating disorder kicked in and the isolation and insanity was destroying her and she started cutting again to attempt to kill the emotional pain and shame. Similar situation are very common in many ways that people were not getting the true help they needed. So in addition to the data base that helped find the appropriate help based on the persons needs and situation, we contracted the leading authors and experts in 9 categories of addiction and disorders to add their knowledge or content to the site. This way people were able to read the highest level of information confidentially in order of figuring out what help they truly needed. It also cut down the search time from days to minutes which helped while the window was open that the person was willing to enter treatment.
Here is a link to the archive site: http://web.archive.org/web/20000620033940/http://www.addictionsolutions.com/ After working around the clock 24/7 for 2 years creating this site and then it ending in a day, I was crushed and swore off on ever working in the industry again. I worked for 4 years previous to this as an interventionist and case manager mostly in the music industry with my own private practice called Wingtied, was also involved helping with The Musician Assistance Program MAP getting off the ground. Today I believe that meditation and developing self love is essential to recovery, new higher consciousness, peace of mind, happiness and joy. That we can re-write the inner constitution, find oneness with God (the mystery) and gain awareness of all the false programming through meditation in solitude and guided meditation experientials. That perhaps this work is more powerful in helping people than anything Ive done. My intention is to produce 3 websites pertaining to different forms of meditations, audio and video guided meditations and a book. Much Love ~ricky gelb
